Statistics show poor hand washing access in Tanzanian schools, with major gaps: less than 10% of schools having functioning facilities with water/soap, and about 84 percent lacking basic WASH services. Sad enough rural schools face worse conditions, only 30.6 percent of rural schools have adequate WASH infrastructure compared to urban schools 87 percent, this limit proper hygiene practices and increasing the risk of disease. In addition, school environments are mostly bare, with little shade or vegetation, leading to high temperatures and unmitigated rainwater runoff that contributes to soil erosion and water wastage. This gap demonstrates the urgent need for practical, sustainable WASH interventions to protect students’ health and create safer, greener learning environments.
